5 Reasons to Submit to AIFF
Australia's best film festival.
1. The Wild Card
It’s an AIFF original. Once finalists are announced festival organizers select up to an additional twelve short format films to screen at the festival. Any genre, all genres, something a little bit different. These films aren't selected by points, budget, fancy equipment, big names, perfect sound, colour correction or past successes. These films will be selected because of the passion they display, their great stories, the surprises, and the emotions they draw. AIFF will give films that might not screen at any other festival a real chance of screening at our festival.
All wild card films will be awarded special laurels, a print quality digital certificate and a guaranteed screening. This is our way of truly supporting independent cinema unlike any other festival. We want different because we are different.
Wild Card selections are an audience favourite and the Wild Card session is not to be missed!
2. Our Selection Process
We understand the amount of work put into each film. Therefore, we are careful to ensure that each movie and screenplay is carefully reviewed under a standardized and fair judging system. Being an independent festival we encourage all film entries and a greater emphasis in the judging process is the overall appeal verses technical perfection. We understand a film shot on a shoestring budget may not have the sound quality of a film shot on a major budget and this, to an extent, will be taken into consideration.
3. Rewarding Film Makers
We aim to reward all entrants.
Each entrant that meets minimum completion criteria will be accepted into the festival competition and receive a digitized official entry laurel. This will be sent via email at the close of entries.
The top twenty percent of each category who do not progress further will receive a digitized semi-finalist laurel.
The top thirty films and top 10 screenplays will receive a finalist laurel dependent on category numbers. A segment of each film and or film trailer will be previewed in the gala awards ceremony before the winner is announced.
* Special Award Categories will be selected independently from the finalist group and will be awarded to the top scoring from each award category.
OFFICIAL SELECTION – Official selections will be chosen from the top thirty films and will include films from each category except the feature film and documentary categories. Each selected film will receive a digitized official selection laurel. Please note due to time constraints not all finalists will have their films shown and this will be confirmed prior to the event.
The WINNER of each category and special award categories will receive a special digitized winner laurel, an original certificate and a prestigious awards trophy.
*If a Winner and or representative is not able to attend the festival the festival will ask that a 60 second acceptance mobile phone recorded video be provided.
**If a Winner and or representative is not able to attend the festival a digital copy of the certificate and digital laurels will only be provided.
4. AIFF Networking
We believe a festival is not a festival without the opportunity for filmmakers to network. All selected finalist films will receive two festival passes which will allow entry into the two film sessions, awards presentation and to an exclusive pre-festival meet and greet, and Industry panel discussion. Additional tickets may be available once numbers are confirmed. A total of two non-transferable festival passes only per film will be made available. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony festival goers will be encouraged to stay on and further network and socialize at a to be announced venue.
5. The City and Venue
Brisbane, located an hour's drive from the World famous beaches of the Gold Coast is a vibrant, art loving new world city that can be considered the Gateway to Australia. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland is rich with culture and renowned for its hospitality and safety. AIFF will take place at the The Lumen Room which is a refurbished space with old school cinema seating in the Metro Arts building nestled within the exclusive world-class retail and dining Edward Street Precinct.
Metro Arts is a dynamic hub for Brisbane’s arts and arts-going community and the perfect home for AIFF.
Whilst we understand there are larger and more modern cinemas we feel a smaller space creates a far more intimate, unique and rewarding festival experience. At AIFF you will not simply be a face within the crowd!
